UPDATE: A suspect is now arrested following the early morning shooting.

The case will now be handed off to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office for formal charges.

GRANGER, Ind. -- Officers with the St. Joseph County Police Department responded to the 15000 block of State Road 23 around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday to reports of shots-fired and an individual walking into the roadway.

When officers arrived, the suspect was no longer there. Officials from SJCPD and Mishawaka PD used a K-9 unit and a drone to survey the area and quickly found the suspect.

They were taken into custody without incident.

A nearby worker, who asked the remain anonymous, tells ABC57 she saw a massive police presence that redirected traffic for a portion of State Road 23. She also described seeing officers with their guns drawn, surrounding a black SUV in the area.

ABC57 also spotted officers from SJCPD placing evidence markers and searching the parking lot of a Walgreens near the initial scene. A Walgreens employee told our team police informed them they found shell casings underneath cars in the parking lot. The Walgreens was not open at the time of the shots-fired report and employees were not allowed to speak with ABC57 on-camera about the incident.

No word on a motive related to the incident or a suspect description has been released at this time.

SJCPD confirms this remains an active investigation.
