Michigan City man faces felony charges after allegedly trying to shoot woman
La Porte County Jail: Francisco Gamez MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- A 36-year-old Michigan City man is charged with several felonies after allegedly shooting at a woman during a domestic dispute on Nov. 22, 2025.
The suspect, Francisco Gamez is charged with Attempted Murder, a Level 1 Felony, Criminal Confinement while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 3 Felony, Domestic Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, a Level 5 Felony, Unlawful Carrying of a Handgun, a Level 5 Felony, Intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 Felony, Domestic Battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old, a Level 6 Felony, and Pointing a Firearm at Another, a Level 6 Felony.
Gamez' initial hearing was Tuesday. He pled not guilty to all charges.
Gamez was given a $100,000 cash bond, but bail was denied.
Gamez is due in court on Aug. 27, with a jury trial tentatively scheduled for Dec. 14.
According to La Porte County court documents, officers with the Michigan City Police Department responded to a home in the 2500 block of Buffalo Street for a domestic dispute call around 11:30 p.m.
The victim told police Gamez hit her in the face several times with a firearm and fired the gun in her direction at least once.
The victim said she told Gamez to leave after the two began fighting. The victim said the fight began after Gamez asked for her handgun, which she had hidden. She told Gamez she didn't know where it was.
Gamez eventually found the gun and asked the victim for her car keys, which she refused to do.
Gamez allegedly became verbally aggressive at which point the victim knocked on the bedroom door of their roommate to help remove Gamez from the residence.
The victim stated Gamez then raised the gun up to her and racked it, resulting in one round going into the chamber. She said when she realized this, she ran to her bedroom when he fired one round in her direction.
The gun's magazine fell out and was later located by the doorway of the bedroom.
The victim said she ended up by her nightstand where Gamez allegedly pinned her down and pointed the gun at her head.
A physical altercation then occurred between the two. This included Gamez allegedly hitting the victim on the right side of the head with the gun.
A child was also present at the time of the incident. The child was uninjured.
