Kids receive bikes as part of recycling program

SOUTH BEND, Ind. —  Some kids in South Bend are traveling in style thanks to a special program hosted by the South Bend Fire Department.

The fire department gave those kids free bikes.

It is all part of the "Recyclers Earn A Free Bike" program. Kids would help repair the bikes and a few lucky ones would get to keep them.

"By me being a single parent, I used to be one to fix the times, but now today he has learned the skill so he can do it himself," said Debra Walker. Her son received one of the bikes.

The graduates were given a bicycle helmet, a t-shirt and even a bike lock.
