MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – A La Porte man was arrested on Tuesday for the August 2021 shooting death of a man in Michigan City, the Michigan City Police Department announced.
Lamar Friend, 41, was arrested on one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
At 7:34 p.m. on August 9, 2021, dispatch received a call about a person shot in a parking lot in the 1500 block of E. Michigan Boulevard.
At the scene, officers found 34-year-old Michigan City resident Leland Collins with life-threatening injuries.
He died from his injuries at the hospital.
On Tuesday, the La Porte County Prosecutor’s Office found probable cause to charge Friend.
The attempted murder charge is included because of a female who was with Collins when he was shot and killed.
Friend was given a $1,000,005 cash bond.
He is due in court on July 19.
