Lakeshore Schools reminds you to talk to your children about ‘stranger danger’

STEVENSVILLE, Mich. -- Following an incident at Stewart Elementary School, Lakeshore Public Schools is reminding parents to talk to your children about the dangers of strangers.

LPS says a man in a white SUV slowly approached a student at the elementary school Thursday and asked the student if they needed a ride. The student told the driver “no” and the driver said he had mistaken the student for someone else.

The incident was reported to the Lincoln Charter Township Police Department.

The school system released these safety tips to pass onto your children in light of this event:

Walk in groups and on sidewalks

Walk on well-lit streets and only cross at corners

Walk the same route every day

Be aware of surroundings

In a statement, LPS said, “Please be assured that the health and safety of your child is most important to us. We hope this was an isolated incident, and we ask that you work with us to make sure that all of our children are secure.”

Anyone with information should contact the LCTPD at 269-429-2444.
