ELKHART, Ind. – A 5-year-old is in recovery at the Riley Children’s Hospital after a lawn mower accident.
Italia McAllister had to have her leg amputated after she was accidentally run over by a mower at an Elkhart residence.
The young girl was transported to the only Level one pediatric trauma center in the state.
The surgeon’s that amputated McAllister’s left leg at Riley’s stated the injury was so sever, they had no other choice
Riley Children’s Hospital officials said they see about seven lawn mower accidents a year.
To avoid freak accidents, follow these simple tips:
- Watch out for kids
- Wear proper footwear
- Place the key out of reach of children
- Keep clear of moving blades
- Be aware of the terrain
