ABC 57

PAW PAW, Mich. -- The Michigan State Police Fifth District announced they are holding a month-long food drive from now until Nov. 30, to support local families and food banks across Southwest Michigan.

The collection sites include the Paw Paw, Niles, Wayland, and Marshall Posts along with District Headquarters.

Each post has partnered with a local food pantry or nonprofit organization to ensure donations support community members.

You can drop items off in the lobbies as the posts Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.

You're asked not to leave items outside or on the steps.

Police listed the following items as the most needed:

  • Peanut butter
  • Canned fruits and vegetables
  • Cereal, soup, and beans
  • Ready-to-eat meals (macaroni and cheese, etc.)
  • Household and hygiene items (toilet paper, soap, detergent, deodorant)

“In the spirit of the giving season, we’re asking our MSP family and the public to come together to help fill the shelves of our local food banks,” said Capt. Jeremy Carlisle, Fifth District Commander. “Every item donated represents hope for a Michigan family this holiday season.”

Police say due to the increased food insecurity expected this season; the public is encouraged join in helping fill local pantry shelves and make a difference for families in need.
