Local organ donor honored with special flower portrait

 The Elkhart area community honored one of their own in a very unique way at the Elkhart General Hospital.

Kelsey Mikel of Wakarusa died in a car accident in 2004 when she was 16-years-old.

Her parents and those who cared for her at Elkhart General Hospital before she passed away are remembering her with a portrait made of flowers.

Kelsey was an organ donor and her father Mark Mikel says it's heartbreaking to not reach important milestones, but her donation has helped the lives of others.

“As parents, you have these dreams for your kids, that they're going to impact the world and make some changes, and the lives they touch.  We couldn't imagine even the impact she would have with her gift. Four people were saved because of her donation.”

The portrait will be placed on the Donate Life Float at the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California on New Years Day.
