MISHAWAKA, Ind.-- Congresswoman Jackie Walorski was known for her advocacy for the country's veterans, likely why it took just two days after her death for a bill to be presented, naming the Mishawaka Veterans Affairs (VA) clinic after her.
During her time in the U.S. House of Representatives, she served on the House Veterans' Affairs Committee.
She also sponsored the Veteran's Mobility Safety Act of 2016, which became law. This directs the VA to ensure disabled vets have proper and free transportation to medical appointments.
Veterans tell ABC57 they saw her as a champion.
“Veterans are a little bit like the middle class—unspoken heroes in a way. And we need people to speak for us because we often don’t speak up ourselves," veteran Robert Bright said. "She was very articulate in that matter, and I hope that we will continue to support the veteran’s administration.”
