Man sets his own home on fire in Hagar Township

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. – Troopers from the Michigan State Police responded to a house fire in the 3500 block of Chabot Rd in Hagar Township on Tuesday.

Authorities reported investigations found that a 48-year-old male set fire to his own residence after a marital dispute from the evening prior.

The report said statements gathered by family members regarding the fire led troopers to the suspect's current location, taking him into custody a short time after the incident.

The suspect was taken to Berrien County Jail and faces preliminary charges of first-degree arson, stated the Michigan State Police.
