March Madness causes distractions at work

March Madness can add some distractions to the work place!

Many basketball fans spent the day researching and working on a bracket.

We talked with a Saint Mary's economics professor who said there is both a good and bad side to March Madness.

Talking about the NCAA tournament can boost office morale, but it can also take a big chunk out of your work day!

"One estimate has 8.5 million work hours will be lost during the tournament which would cost companies nearly $200 million, and so a lot of focus gets placed on that," said Richard Measell of Saint Mary's College.

Don't expect the on-the-job concentration to get better! Once games start, fans will be watching or checking the scores online.
