Michiana participates in 5th annual "Toys for Tots" softball tournament

With a little less than a week away from Thanksgiving, many Michiana locals are participating in a softball tournament to raise money for families this holiday season.

This weekend is the fifth annual “Toys for Tots” softball tournament in Mishawaka.

Five years ago, the tournament started out with two teams with a donation of $10 per person. Now, it’s grown to fourteen men’s teams and nine co-ed teams with an entry fee of $150.

The teams compete for two days. The winning team receives a grand prize of a Wings etc. gift card and on top of that, 100 free wings.

All proceeds go to the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” program.

Over the last four years, the tournament made $12,300 and they collected over 400 toys.

So far, 2015 was their most successful year fundraising with a total of $5,110. They want to raise $6,500 this year.

The last day of the tournament kicks off at 8 A.M. in Rose Park in Mishawaka.
