COLOMA, Mich. -- 80 schools across the state of Michigan will be able to take advantage of a new grant from the Michigan Department of Education.
The department's 'Grow Your Own' program grants school districts money to send current staff members to school to receive or further their teaching degrees.
Teachers are important in society but are often underpaid after spending years of time and lots of money towards their education.
Coloma Community Schools plans to use the money it gets to help 1 staff member pursue a Bachelor's in Education for the very first time, and help 2 others go back for their Master's in Education.
The grants come at a time when schools across the nation are struggling to retain educators during a national teacher shortage.
Coloma is looking forward to eventually having all positions filled with qualified educators, to continue servicing the youth within its schools.
