Michigan unemployment compensation to be cut

Emergency unemployment compensation benefits in Michigan will be reduced by almost 11 percent. The cut will allow for extended benefits for more people.

The program is federally funded.

It provides up to 34 weeks of extended benefits for people who have exhausted their regular state benefits.

For weeks beginning on or after March 31, claimants will have their weekly benefit amount reduced.

A letter will be mailed to those affected prior to the end of March.
