Minimum wage raised to $15 per hour in Seattle

SEATTLE -- An ordinance passed Tuesday that will gradually increase the minimum wage in Seattle to $15 an hour.

This could be the highest minimum wage in the nation.

"It's an exciting historic time for the city, state and nation. We're turning back clock on 34 years that discriminated the middle class in this country," said Seattle Mayor Ed Murray.

Businesses with more than 500 employees get three years to increase their employees' pay. Smaller businesses will have up to 7 years.
