Mishawaka breaks ground on new ‘pocket park’ downtown

MISHAWAKA, Ind. - The City of Mishawaka will soon be home to a new “pocket park”, thanks to the efforts of mayor Dave Wood and the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council.

The Mishawaka Pocket Park is a small green space being built at 100 Lincolnway West, right next to Mishawaka City Hall.

Once completed, the pocket park will have a selfie spot featuring “The Mish” sign, in which parkgoers can become the “I,” artwork of the St. Joseph River running through Mishawaka and a planted green wall fence.

The area will also house seating, a bicycle rack, landscaping and an information display board.

Construction of the park should be completed by Thanksgiving.

Funding for the park was possible thanks to the youth council’s crowdfunding efforts and matching funds by the State of Indiana’s Housing and Community Development Authority Patronicity Program.

The youth council raised over $100,000 in two months.
