Mishawaka murder suspect behind bars
MISHAWAKA, Ind. – A Mishawaka murder suspect who was on the run for months is now behind bars.
U.S. Marshalls arrested Timothy Mayberry on Wednesday night in South Carolina.
Mayberry is the suspect in the murder of 28-year old Avery Brown, which happened at Bleachers Bar back in September.
The crime caused heartache for the victim's family and friends and put people out of work after Bleachers closed shortly after the murder.
"We didn't know. We didn't get the warning that we were going to lose our jobs. And that we were going to have to figure out how we were going to pay our bills, where we're going to go next. A lot of people, this is what we do. This is what we know. You don't get everyday chances to start new,” said Ashley Johnson, who worked at Bleachers Bar.
Johnson was present the night of the shooting and witnessed the sights and sounds of the devastating murder.
She also said that Mayberry, the suspected murderer, was her customer that evening.
"I served Mayberry personally. I'm the one who served him all night,” said Johnson.
Johnson and others faced the difficulty of remembering that night but she also gave an outpouring of sympathy for Brown’s family saying, "I just thought to myself, I can't believe the relief that Avery's family has right now."
ABC57 News spoke to some of Brown’s family and one member said she was ecstatic about the arrest of Mayberry.
Further investigation did show that law enforcement went to the bar 143 times to respond to calls in the past two years.
However, most of the calls did not result in a report being taken.
