Mom charged with felony firearm charges after child allegedly almost hit by car near school

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. -- Court documents from the St. Joseph Superior Court reveal 33-year-old Angelica Cavazos was charged with Pointing a Firearm at Another, and Possession of Firearm on School Property, both Level 6 Felonies, following an altercation on Aug. 29.
Her first hearing is Sept. 24.
Documents state officers responded to Career Academy where they made contact with the victim.
The victim stated he went to Castle Point Apartments and maneuvered his vehicle around some cones.
After leaving for the second time, the victim said he was followed by a vehicle driven by Cavazos.
The victim told police two men followed Cavazos. Those two men reported Cavazos' child was almost struck by the victim.
The victim said once on the school's property, him and one of the men got into a physical altercation. During that time is when Cavazos allegedly discharged her firearm and pointed it at the victim.
Police say the gun was recovered from Cavazos' vehicle.
Cavazos was Mirandized and, according to the report, only stated a cone was struck. Police say she made no mention of her child.
Cavazos did state that the victim pushed her and that he wouldn't stop fighting with the man, so she fired her gun.
