SOUTH BEND, Ind. — Muffet McGraw, the winningest coach in Notre Dame Women’s Basketball history officially became the first woman to receive her own statue on Notre Dame’s campus Saturday.
The cold and windy conditions didn’t stop hundreds of fans, former players, and alumni from attending outside the Purcell Pavilion, where McGraw secured so many legendary wins.
During her time as head coach of Notre Dame Women’s basketball, McGraw racked up more than 900 wins, nine final four appearances and two national championships.
Dozens of former players, some of whom went on to play at a professional level return to Notre Dame as a part of honoring the Irish legend.
The new statue is located right outside of the Joyce Center in front of the main gates.
