Multiple agencies search for missing 2-year-old boy, child found safe

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. -- A 2-year-old was found safe approximately two miles from his home three hours after he disappeared Wednesday morning.

At 8:25 a.m., dispatch received a 9-1-1 call about a 2-year-old boy missing from his home in the 40000 block of M43 in Waverly Township.

Once deputies arrived, they determined the boy opened the front door of the home and walked off with their 1 year old pit bull.

The child was only wearing a t-shirt and diaper when he disappeared.

Multiple agencies responded to the scene to search for the missing boy.

During the search, Sheriff Abbott located footwear and dog print impressions in a field. The sheriff and K9 teams tracked the child and he was located in a heavily wooded area approximately 2 miles from home.

He was in good health except for multiple bug bites. He was treated by EMS on the scene.
