SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Naxos Neighbors is holding a training session on May 7 for South Bend community members who are interested in becoming opioid overdose responders. Naxos Neighbors created Naxos OD, an app that connects opioid overdose bystanders with someone nearby who has naloxone, the reversal drug.

After downloading the app, a bystander of a person in need of help presses a button on the app and the app searches for trained responders nearby who have naloxone. The responder who answers the call is provided a map to find the person in need.

Anyone can sign up to be a responder. After training, you can choose when you want to be notified of someone in need of help.

The next training session is May 7 at the St. Joseph County Library in downtown South Bend. Training starts at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m.
