Neighbor rescues woman from North Liberty house fire

NORTH LIBERTY, Ind. -- A neighbor is being called a hero after firefighters say he rescued an elderly woman from flames ripping through her home.

The fire started around 2:30 a.m. Thursday on Redwood Road in North Liberty, just north of Potato Creek State Park.

The man who neighbors say saved the homeowner said it's all thanks to his pets and the weather.

"We got her out of there just in time because when that door opened it took my breath away the smoke was so bad. We had a big bolt of lightning and my dogs don't like that very much and wanted to go out, so I let them, and thats when I noticed the neighbors house on fire" said Max Edison.

Neighbors say the woman is in her early 90s. She is expected to be alright.

The fire chief believes the fire might be weather-related and said the home is a total loss.
