New Buffalo Township Fire Department Responds to Residential Structure Fire in Michiana

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich. -- Shortly after 6 a.m. this morning, the New Buffalo Township Fire Department was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the Village of Michiana after occupants were awakened by smoke detectors, observed fire conditions, and called 911.

The fire was brought under control shortly after crews arrived on scene, allowing firefighters to begin overhaul operations and extinguish remaining hot spots.

One individual sustained burn injuries and was transported by to Franciscan Health in Michigan City. 

At this time, no further formal fire investigation is anticipated. The fire appears to have been accidental in nature.
