New restaurant opens on W. Western Avenue

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A new restaurant on W. Western Avenue held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday.

Tortilleria El Sol is in the 2200 block of W. Western Avenue. It is the second location for the Reynoso family.

Their first restaurant operated on the weekends and only part time.

They bought the old Anchor Inn building and renovated it.

The South Bend Department of Community Investment says the restaurant is a great addition to the west side and gives it a fresher look.

”We’ve seen here on this section of Western Avenue actually over the last 5 years or so as part of the city's efforts mending small business openings and expansions," said Michael Divita, with the Department of Community Investment.

The grant used is part of a matching grant program for exterior improvements to buildings along Western Avenue.
