Indiana BMV to offer extended hours for Election Day

INDIANA- The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) announced on Wednesday that most branches will have extended hours for election days.

The bureau will be issuing ID cards and driver’s licenses for people to use as identification at the polling places.

The new, extended hours are as follows:

  • Monday, November 4- 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Tuesday, November 5- 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

If the county does not have elections scheduled, the branches in those counties will be closed.

Anyone who has an ID which expired after the last general election does not need a new ID for this election, and the paper temporary IDs issued by the license branch are also acceptable proofs of identification for voting purposes.

In order to obtain a new state ID card or driver’s license, the following documents must be presented:

  • Proof of Identity document, such as a birth certificate or passport.
  • Proof of Social Security document, such as a Social Security card, pay stub, or W-2.
  • Proof of lawful status, such as a birth certificate or passport.
  • Proof of residency, two documents such as a voter registration card, utility bill or bank statement.
  • If your name has been legally changed and now differs from your identity document(s) (i.e., birth certificate or passport), proof of name change must be provided in order to obtain a state ID or driver’s license

A complete list of documents required to obtain a new state ID card or driver’s license can also be found at IN.gov/BMV.

All branches will resume regular business hours on Wednesday, November 6.
