Failure to yield at stop sign leads to two-vehicle crash

ABC 57

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- Two vehicles collided at the intersection of US 6 and C.R. 13 Wednesday morning, leading to one driver spun out, transported to the hospital, and cited for failing to yield, according to the Elkhart County Sheriff's Office.

On Wednesday, around 8:04 a.m., 18-year-old Hunter Velthouse was driving a 2017 Nissan Altima north on C.R. 13, where he came to a two-way stop at the intersection of US 6.

At the same time, a 2017 Ford F350 was driving east on US 6 and arriving at the same intersection, without a stop sign.

Velthouse then drove into the intersection without yielding to the F350. Velthouse and the other driver collided, with Velthouse spinning off the northeast corner of the intersection and into a parking lot.

Velthouse was transported to Memorial Hospital for a head injury and cited for Failing to Yield to a Vehicle Not Required to Stop.
