KANSAS CITY, MO – Round one of the 2023 NFL draft wraps up without any former Notre Dame players selected, despite tight end Michael Mayer being the lone hope for the Irish.
A sad day for the Irish fanbase.
Mayer is Notre Dame’s leader in every stat, in regards to tight ends to come but his name is still on the board going into day two on Friday evening.
Over the years, 522 players have been drafted from Notre Dame.
Six of them being tight end’s hearing their name called in the first round and Mayer was expected to be the seventh, after hauling in 2,099 yards on 180 receptions and 18 touchdowns.
As for the Indianapolis Colts, they got their new QB, Anthony Richardson out of University of Florida. Richardson is what some consider the most athletic player in the draft, standing at 6’4 230 pounds, throwing 17 touchdown’s with the Gator’s.
The Chicago Bears took advantage of their top 10 pick drafting Tennessee’s offensive lineman Darnell Wright to protect for Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields, as he enters his third season in the windy city.
Rounding things out, the Detroit Lions snatched up Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs and joining him is linebacker Jack Campbell out of Iowa.
