Niles police confirm body found in river Sunday afternoon

ABC 57 NILES, Mich. -- The Niles Police Department reports a 911 call came in regarding a body being found in the St. Joseph River around 12:22 p.m., Sunday.
The report states the body was discovered by two people walking along the river's east side on a pathway.
Officers responded to the east shoreline between the Broadway and Main Street bridges, where they found the body submerged just under the water's surface.
The body has since been identified as 59-year-old Michael Allen Witt of Niles.
With assistance from the Niles Fire Department River Rescue team, Witt's body was removed from the water.
Police say no obvious indications for cause of death were observed.
An autopsy for Witt has been scheduled in Kalamazoo.
