Niles receives over $324k marijuana tax payment disbursement from state

MGN NILES, Mich. -- Niles Mayor Nick Shelton announced Friday that the city has received its marijuana tax payment from the State of Michigan as part of the Michigan Regulation and Taxation of Marijuana Act.
This disbursement amounts to $324,102.60, or $54,017.10 per retail store. Niles had six in operation at the time.
Shelton notes this is the fifth marijuana tax disbursement the city has received since 2022.
The five disbursements include:
- February 2026: $324,102.60
- February 2025: $407,600.52
- March 2024: $354,518.10
- March 2023: $207,364.84
- March 2022: $169,360.32
The mayor says these distributions are deposited into the city's General Fund, which includes Public Safety, Public Works, Community Development, and more.
