Firefighters found the fire was contained in a basement bedroom of the group home.

Officials say there was heavy smoke throughout the home.

Fire officials say the cause of the fire was determined to be a candle which had been knocked onto a bed.

All nine residents of the home escaped thanks to working smoke alarms.

BHDPS officials are reminding the public that all area fire departments can supply free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms through a partnership with MI Prevention.
