Non-compliant sexually violent predator arrested

St. Joseph County Jail: Ambrose Lofton

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The St. Joseph County Police Department reports a 42-year-old man was taken into custody following an investigation by the Warrants Division.

Police say the suspect, Ambrose Lofton, was wanted in the county for Violation of Court Order related to the underlying charges of Child Molesting Fondling or Touching with a Child Under 14.

Authorities say Lofton was found in the 3400 block of Curtiss Drive in South Bend and arrested without incident.

Police say Lofton is classified as a non-compliant sexually violent predator.

Lofton was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail.

Lofton's charges stem from April 2019, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The South Bend Police Department reports officers responded to a home in the 1900 block of S. William Street on April 7, 2029, for reported child molestation.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the alleged victim's mother.

The mother told police the victim informed her she'd been sexually assaulted by Lofton.

The victim was interviewed and further informed investigators that since she was 5, Lofton had touched her inappropriately on multiple occasions.

The victim also told investigators Lofton had penetrated her and made her perform other sex acts on him.

Documents state the victim was then taken to Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center for a sexual assault examination.

The examination revealed abrasions to the victim's genitals.
