SOUTH BEND, Ind.- Notre Dame women’s close out the home schedule in a 76-53 win over Georgia Tech.
Based on the Yellow Jackets 8-0 run in the beginning of the game, a 23-point margin win for the Irish isn't the prediction many had in mind.
“We started off a little bit slow today. But I thought we picked up our energy. We had five people in double figures,” said Head Coach Niele Ivey.
Notre Dame eventually found a spark, going on their own run and winning the half 33-27.
“I think it was a reset mentally have we got some good looks you know, my goal was to go inside early first three touches I think we're in the paint but we had no offensive rebounds. I talked to them about just locking in defensively changed a little bit of rotation and I think that worked but again I just think it's always sometimes it's like that the emotion of being the senior night,” Ivey added.
The gamechanger was the defensive effort in the second half. Holding Georgia Tech to 12 points, while adding 22 on their end. Complimented by only 9 turnovers in 40 minutes, the Irish held the lead for 31 minutes and were led by five players in double digits on Senior Night at Purcell Pavillion.
“It's good energy going on the road, again, taking care of business on our home court, utilizing the energy of our crowd, and then knowing that, you know, Sunday's a huge matchup being away on the road,” Ivey mentioned.
