Officer involved shooting prompts investigation in LaPorte County

LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. – The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of shots fired in the area of the 7000-8000 block of CR 500 West at 5:15 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene they were met with immediate gunfire.

According to officials, when officers responded to the call a suspect began to fire at them, striking one of their vehicles.

Officers returned fire and ended up hitting the suspect who was later found and treated on the scene for the injury.

The suspect was taken into custody and sent to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Michigan City for non-life threatening injuries.

No officers were hurt in the incident.

The Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division was contacted to look into the shooting.

The investigation is currently on-going and names of all involved will be released at a later date.
