ORIGINAL: CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- The Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a single-vehicle crash just before noon on Thursday. When they arrived, they found the driver trapped under the vehicle. Life-saving measures were taken, but the victim died from their injuries at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital the same day.

Authorities say the call came in around 11:57 a.m. for a vehicle that had crossed the center line while going south on Garrett Road in Silver Creek Township.

"The vehicle crossed the centerline and left the roadway to the east," authorities said. "The vehicle went down a ditch and rolled before coming to a rest in a field. The driver was initially trapped under the vehicle. The driver was transported by SMCAS Ambulance to and pronounced deceased at the Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital."

The solo passenger of the vehicle was transported by ambulance to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital but refused medical treatment.

Authorities say seat belts were not worn, and that drugs and/or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.

"The crash remains under investigation. Names are not being released, pending notification to family," authorities said.
