One killed, one injured in crash between car and garbage truck

LAPORTE COUNTY, Ind. – One person was killed and another injured in an accident between a Chevy Impala and a garbage truck in Center Township Thursday afternoon.

According to the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office, the Impala was traveling east on County Road 300 N and failed to stop at the intersection of 300 North. When the driver entered the intersection, the car was struck by the garbage truck.

The garbage truck is operated by the Michigan City Sanitary District.

Because of the severity of the injuries of the driver and passenger in the Impala, Med Flight was called to the scene.

The 70-year-old driver died before the arrival of MedFlight. The passenger, a 68-year-old female, was transported via MedFlight to South Bend Memorial Hospital.

The victim’s identities are being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.
