UPDATE: Pedestrian struck at intersection, FACT now investigating as hit-and-run
ABC 57 UPDATE: The South Bend Police Department reports this incident is now being investigated as a hit-and-run, although there's no info on the suspect vehicle at this time.
Police noted the victim was struck while performing work on the side of the road.
The victim is currently in the hospital with serious injuries.
As of 3:38 p.m., Wednesday, drivers are asked to avoid the area as St. Joseph County FACT continues to investigate.
ORIGINAL STORY: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department reports an investigation has begun after a crash involving a pedestrian and vehicle occurred around 1:15 p.m., Wednesday.
The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Portage and Leland Avenues in South Bend.
Police say the pedestrian was seriously injured.
St. Joseph County FACT has been activated to investigate the crash.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area during the investigation.
