PEGGS celebrates the last 25 years DTSB

SOUTH BEND, Ind.— Twenty-five years ago this week, the longest standing tenant on Michigan Street opened its doors and helped pave the way for growth in downtown South Bend.

Before the Downtown South Bend organization or many of the now familiar businesses along Michigan Street, there was LePeep, which transformed into Peggs in 2017.

In 2001, owner Peg Dalton took a chance, serving up brunch at what has become a South Bend staple.

As Saturdays and Sundays came and went, business grew busier and so did the street around it.

Peggs has remained a key partner with Downtown South Bend Inc., welcoming record investment in housing and new businesses beyond Michigan Street.

Dalton said she and her team are looking ahead to the next 25 years as they continue making bacon and memories. “I never dreamed that I’d be here 25 years later celebrating this moment. When we first opened downtown was pretty quiet so we’re happy to be a part of the growth there,” Dalton said.

PEGGS was honored Friday evening ahead of a celebration to commemorate the milestone.
