For the second time in three years, the Penn Kingsmen made it to Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis for the 6A State Finals. The Kingsmen entered the state title game riding a 12-game winning streak, but a matchup with top-ranked and undefeated Ben Davis proved too much to overcome.
The Kingsmen fell behind 21-0 early in the first quarter, and could not recover. When all was finished, the Giants won 63-14, leaving Penn still searching for its first state championship since 2000.
“Brutal as this night was, that didn’t take away from what these seniors accomplished this year and how they responded and how they led a football team back," said head coach Cory Yeoman after the game. "With all the great things they accomplished this year, this one hurts. It hurts tonight. It’s not how we wanted to go out. Down the road, they’ll have a lot to be proud of because they accomplished a lot of great things.”
