MISHAWAKA, Ind. - February flooding caused the washout underneath Lincolnway in Mishawaka.
A lane closure has been in effect since then. The public has expressed its concern for safety. INDOT sent ABC57 a statement saying:
“I realize there are a number of people on social media and callers to the local media that are concerned about what they have heard or seen about this washout. Some folks have contacted us worried it’s a sinkhole. This is simply a washout that has been set to be fixed through a project that has already been planned to start next week.”
The status of this closure has not changed since the winter, but a nearby home owner didn’t even know what it was closed for until ABC57 spoke with her.
“I’m kind of nervous now because I didn’t know what it was until recently. I just thought maybe it was pot holes or something,” said Tarri Holderman.
The project starts next week and will take 2 to 3 weeks. Drivers can expect another lane closure.
