Planting trees at the Unity Gardens

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- People over at South Bend's Unity Gardens celebrated Earth Day by planting trees.

Students from St. Mary's planted, weeded and tended to the garden there.

It helps provide fresh vegetables and produce for families who might not be able to otherwise afford it.

"To think that there are so many gardens in the South Bend area that provide produce for people who can't afford it because when you go to the grocery store it can really be expensive. I shop around and sometimes it breaks the bank for me," said Genevieve Spittler, St. Mary's Senior.

There are several unity garden locations around Michiana.
