PLAYLIST: Offensive line competition, defensive line grit stand out in week two of Irish football camp
SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Week two of Notre Dame football training camp kicked off, and both the offensive and defensive lines are already shaping up to be major storylines.
On offense, Coach Joe Rudolph says this year’s focus is all about grit. Every spot on the line is up for grabs, from freshmen to fifth-year veterans, and the competition is heating up. Billy Schrauth is bringing energy while working on the finer details, and freshman Guerby Lambert is back to full speed with a chance to rise quickly. Rudolph says communication is key to building confidence, especially when facing the Irish defense each day.
On the defensive side, Coach Al Washington is leading a deep and talented group. He coaches everyone the same, holding each player to a high standard. Washington praised freshman Christopher Burgess for his maturity and highlighted Junior Tuihalamaka’s perseverance after a tough start last season. Veteran Jared Dawson adds explosiveness, while Donovan Hinish says this D-line is fueled by last year’s national title loss.
Training camp picks back up Sunday, and ABC57 will have full coverage of how both sides of the ball continue to develop.
