Plymouth family reacts to Wednesday morning drive-by

PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- A Plymouth family was jolted out of bed at 1:44 a.m. on Wednesday morning by the sound of multiple gunshots.

They say five shots were fired, three ending up inside the home, with one bullet landing upstairs, close to where two of the children sleep.

Plymouth police quickly responded to the home of Jaime and Elizabeth Fonseca, where the house camera caught a video of the driver’s car. While police were still at the scene, the shooter’s car showed back up, leading to a vehicle chase.

Police apprehended the driver, 18-year-old Arionna Rubio, and a juvenile male passenger.

The Fonseca family says this was not an accidental shooting. They say they believe the juvenile passenger is part of a group of minors who have been harassing and threatening the family and community for two years.

“My headspace is, it’s just so messed up, I can’t sleep. Our oldest, she can’t sleep. Every time she hears cars drive by, she's on our cameras checking them, because you don’t know. Just because those two are locked up, there’s still other ones out there that we have issues with that have threatened us,” expressed Elizabeth.

Neighbors agree this group of minors has been a lingering threat in a community that normally feels safe.

“They all run around with weapons acting like they’re thugs and like they’re a big gang,” said Hunter Rust, a Plymouth community member.

Rubio was taken to the Marshall County Jail for felony criminal charges, including Intimidation with a Deadly Weapon, Criminal Recklessness, Dangerous Control of a Firearm, Assisting a Criminal, Resisting Law Enforcement, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, and misdemeanor Reckless Driving.

ABC57 Night team reached out to Plymouth Police Department for an interview Thursday but have not heard back.
