Plymouth partnering with NIPRA for new passenger rail service

PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- On Thursday, Plymouth Mayor Robert Listenberger announced a partnership with the Northern Indiana Passenger Rail Association (NIPRA) to "enhance transportation infrastructure and connectivity in our region."

“This partnership marks a transformative step towards improving our community’s mobility and accessibility," Listenberger said. "By working with NIPRA, we are committed to bringing efficient, sustainable, and customer-focused passenger rail service back to Northern Indiana.”

Highlights of the partnership include:

  • Enhanced Connectivity: The new passenger rail service will connect Plymouth with major cities, providing residents with more travel options and reducing reliance on personal vehicles.
  • Economic Growth: Improved transportation infrastructure is expected to attract businesses and tourists, boosting local economy and creating job opportunities.
  • Sustainability: By offering a greener alternative to traditional transportation, this initiative supports our commitment to environmental stewardship.

“We are excited about the potential this partnership holds for Plymouth and the surrounding communities,” said Listenberger. “Together, we are paving the way for a more connected, prosperous, and sustainable future.”

Plymouth has hired infrastructure planning firm HNTB Corporation to focus on reviewing past studies, identifying gaps, and establishing a detailed scope, schedule, and budget for the remaining planning efforts. Their work is expected to continue through June 2025.
