Police bring extra forces for Mishawaka Summer Fest
MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Despite the on and off showers on Saturday, thousands of people came to the 31st annual Mishawaka Summer Fest. With the big attendance, came the need for a big police presence.
“There’s zero cost to come to Summer Fest and that’s huge," says Carmen Carpenter, Event Coordinator for the Mishawaka Parks and Recreation Department
Lt. Tim Williams with the Mishawaka Police Department says they have officers working overtime.
He says this is a family-oriented event and they usually don't expect any crime. But he had a message for young adults.
“If your parents wouldn’t approve of you doing it, don’t do it,” says Williams.
Lt. Williams also advises people driving to Summer Fest to be aware of their surroundings. Since there are a lot of people walking around it's best to drive slow and watch out for pedestrians.
