Police use basketball to beat back crime, build relationships

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -- A basketball tournament expected to draw dozens of boys and girls from the Flint area is kicking off this weekend.

The 4th annual Flint 3 on 3 Stop the Silence basketball tournament will be held Saturday, June 25 at the DDA flat lot in downtown Flint.

Area police officers and other organizations come together to make the tournament possible. The idea is to build a healthy relationship and mutual respect between residents and police.

Registration will occur at the event between 8-9 a.m. Ages 7 and up are welcome to play in the free tournament.

Prizes will be given to winning bracket teams, including a custom NBA quality basketball.
