MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Mishawaka firefighters responded to at least two transformer fires early Tuesday morning. The fires caused power outages across parts of the city.
Officials said a tree fell on power lines at Grove and Benton Streets around 1 a.m. which caused a chain reaction. The Mishawaka Fire Department said the two transformers caught on fire within an hour.
Mishawaka Utility crews are starting to work to remove the tree that knocked down power lines on Benton St.

The outage stretched from McKinley Avenue and Logan Street to Main Street. Meijer and Planet Fitness on Grape Road were also affected.
I should have knocked on myself (Wood). 3 hrs after I tweet about reliable power in Mishawaka, a tree falls over a major power line causing chain reaction power outage & fire. Some might blame my tweet for that one! MU has restored power to most areas. Remaining areas on shortly.
