SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Neighborhoods in Michiana could see flooding this weekend as the rain moves through.
However, neighbors in areas impacted by past flooding in 2016 and 2018, like Jewel Woods and Baugo Creek, tell ABC57 they are not worried about this weekend’s possible flooding.
They explain because the ground isn’t frozen and creek levels remain low, they think the impact of the expected three to four inches will cause minimal damage to their properties.
Emergency management directors in St. Joseph and Elkhart County disagree through, suggesting residents act proactively by preparing an emergency kit, picking up sandbags, and planning evacuation routes.
“It’s that time of year, we just need to be prepared,” said Jennifer Tobey, Elkhart County Emergency Management director.
