SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Right to Life Michiana organization marched through Downtown South Bend on Friday in protest of the Roe v. Wade decision that made abortions legal around this time 49 years ago.
Friday’s demonstration coordinates with the annual January march that takes place in Washington, D.C. in opposition to the Roe V Wade decision.
The local group marched from the Hedwig Center on Scott Street to the Federal Courthouse in Downtown South Bend on Friday.
“Today we're out here to rally and protest the Roe v. Wade decision. 49 years ago, this week, Roe v. Wade made a horrific ruling that allows life to be ended in the womb during all nine months of pregnancy. Since then, 61 million lives have been lost to this decision. If we were to take just one second of silence for each life that was lost, we would be standing here in silence for just over two years,” said Jackie Appleman, Executive Director of Right to Life Michiana.
Right to Life Michiana will host a prayer event at 12 p.m. on Saturday at the Saint Thomas Apostle Church in Elkhart.
