JIMTOWN, Ind.-- The Gymtown Food Pantry has launched their Rapid Response Food Bank in order to help meet the needs of the community following the recent lapse in SNAP benefits.
Scott Griffey, Executive Director of Gymtown Food Pantry and Gymtown Food Bank, started running the food bank out of his home.
Previously helping 107 families in the community, Griffey has since upgraded to working out of a much larger warehouse- further providing a more stable long-term food distribution foundation for the community
"So even if it happens again, we want to be up and running and ready to go and have our shelves filled so that we can take up that extra need when we're if there's a local problem, it should be handled locally." Says Griffey. "It doesn't need to come from somewhere far away. We should be able to take care of our own and especially here in Elkhart County."
This new food bank gives Elkhart community members a much closer location to shop from rather than driving to South Bend or Milford.
