US Representative Jackie Walorski, R-District 2, is looking for a compromise with President Trump regarding his proposed tariffs on steel and aluminum.
Walorski wrote a letter to the president expressing her concerns earlier this week, but says she hasn't heard back.
She says multiple manufacturers in northern Indiana have told her these tariffs could force them to lay off employees.
They fear it will give their foreign competitors an advantage as customers move to cheaper options.
"We're not against his tariffs. We're not against his ability to make an executive decision where he sees fit in regard to tariffs. The issue is we're asking him to narrow the field significantly and allow for companies who can't find a domestic producer to be able to go and find ways that they can get this raw material to continue their business," Walorski said.
Walorski says she hopes the president will listen to members of congress before moving forward with the tariffs.
